Leo, the Little Wanderer

Author
Tuula Pere
Illustrator
Andrea Alemanno
Themes

I have never read a children’s story with such a powerful message until this book. The writing was beautifully illustrative all on its own.
The moments when Leo met people throughout the story were relatable and filled with introspection and meaning. He was able to connect with many different people from diverse places on basic levels such as music. This shows that we all have so much in common and this story effectively sends that message to young readers.
The full page illustrations by Andrea Alemanno gave a delightful charm to the adventure and made the reading experience simply enchanting.

Leo seems to be on a quest of personal growth and self-discovery as well as on a physical quest from place to place. Everyone that Leo meets seems to teach him something and impact him in some way.
Pere has a very interesting, almost Gothic style to some of her books. While this one isn't necessarily dark, it does raise some questions.
Tuula Pere is one of the best children's authors we've ever had come our way.

Sometimes, even children feel drawn to visit other places, and Tuula Pere satisfies some of that curiosity in this book.
Pere has a gift for taking the ordinary and encouraging readers to view it in a new and eye-opening way.
The illustrations by Andrea Alemanno are filled with soft washes of color. Leo is depicted as a dark-haired boy with a large backpack.
